“Look, Listen, Learn. Be Aware: Fire Can Happen Anywhere.” That is the theme of National Fire Prevention Week, and the Bossier City Fire Department will kick off its program at Sun City Elementary. Each year in October, BCFD’s Fire Prevention Bureau takes its fire safety message on the road to all Bossier City elementary schools. Expect puppets, a video presentation and lots of engagement from the Sun City Stars!

Make A New Friend Week

October is designated as National Bullying Prevention Month and the Platt Cowboys have a different theme each week. October 1-5 will be “Make a New Friend Week,” serving as encouragement for students to meet someone new that is not in their class. Platt will have a sign that students will post hearts on that say “My new friend is …”

On World Day of Bullying Prevention, the Haughton Elementary Buccaneers will join thousands of students across the nation in solidarity and #BlueUp. Everyone is encouraged to wear blue and send a message that this is the day bullying prevention is heard around the world and it takes all of us to change the culture.

Bossier Parish students in the Bossier Youth Leadership program will be learning why quality of life is so important to a community and what that looks like. Feel free to meet them at one of their stops.

STOP Bully!

As part of National Bullying Prevention Week, the second graders at Platt Elementary will be entertained by Shreveport Opera Express, which will be performing “STOP Bully!”

Princeton STEAM Day (and Night)

All day and 4-6 p.m.

Princeton will be engaged in all-things-STEAM related on Tuesday. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art and math. The AXI Technology Bus will be at the school throughout the day for students and teachers to board and explore the latest classroom technology. Then, the community is invited to STEAM Night from 4-6 p.m. to explore the bus outside and come inside the school for more fun. This free event will involve games and creating with household items to encourage families to play together more. A flyer is attached with more information.

Thursday, October 4

Rockets Observe Walk to School Day
Apollo Elementary

Apollo Elementary has participated in the National Walk to School Day for the past few years. Because the district is on fall break when this year’s walk event is scheduled, Apollo is observing it October 4 so students do not have to miss out! Students will meet behind Airline High School at 7:30 a.m. and walk or bike down Tilman Drive, then cross the bridge where Tilman meets Deas. Law enforcement and crossing guards will be stationed along the route to keep our kids safe on their trek to school.
