Entrepreneurial Accelerator Program (EAP) hosts Business Pitch Competitions November 12, 2019BlogCommunications Department There is no better way to showcase innovative young people than the Business Pitch Competitions organized by the Entrepreneurial Accelerator Program (EAP) – a division of BRF. Students from Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS), Grambling State University (GSU), Northwestern State University in Natchitoches (NSU) and the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) will have a chance to compete for cash prizes by pitching their business idea. Qualifying applicants will go through 3 phases during the competition: submit their business idea; go through a business development workshop given by EAP analysts and other industry experts; and then chosen finalists will have the opportunity to formally present their business idea. Cash prizes include $3,000 for first place, $1,000 for second and $500 for third. In 2017, EAP launched the university pitch competition at LSUS, which was later expanded to GSU and NSU in 2018. This year Centenary College and Bossier Parish Community College were added to the spring program, while ULM was added to the fall program. In the last three years, the program has grown from one to six North Louisiana schools with plans to expand to others in 2020. Each university will host its own Final Pitch competition in and around Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW): NSU on Nov. 14, ULM on Nov. 18, GSU on Nov. 19 and LSUS on Nov. 20. Dave Smith, Executive Director at the BRF’s EAP, says that EAP want to support university and college students learn about the local entrepreneurial eco-system and how to start businesses in North Louisiana. ”We want to grow the next generation of entrepreneurs to build a sustainable economy here in North Louisiana,” Smith said. “There are so many benefits for launching a business in our region, such as local and state incentives, and a low cost of living.” “We also have large areas throughout North Louisiana that are designated opportunity zones, which are just waiting for budding entrepreneurs to take advantage of and start their business,” he added.
