Innovation North LA is Coming: Why Cyber?

This year cyber is a big component to the Innovation North LA initiative. Because our area has seen a surge in the field of Cyber Security, we are noticing a common trend in the events associated with Innovation North LA. A few of the events include information targeted toward cyber technology.

In order to bring more attention to this field, our Education & Innovation Luncheon will be focused on, “Cultivating Generation Cyber.” At this event on Nov. 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CenturyLink Center, there will be several vendor booths present that represent higher ed institutions like La Tech, Grambling, NSU, LSUS, BPCC. NICERC will also be present as a vendor table. These participants will showcase the type of cyber technology and programming that is present at each institution.

Also at the luncheon, scholarships will be awarded to Bossier and Caddo senior students who have submitted an application and expressed an interest in a cyber related field of study. Other high school students (freshman – juniors) will also be invited to learn more about what cyber opportunities are present in our region.

Kevin Nolten, Director of Academic Outreach for NICERC, is going to serve as the keynote speaker for the event. He explains why Cyber is important for today’s emerging leaders.

“Cyber education is important in our community because we have the opportunity to educate and train the next generation’s cyber workforce.”

On Nov. 14, there will also be a Cyber: Job Creation & Elimination Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at the La Tech Academic Success Center. Guest speakers for the event will be Jack Skaggs of the Coordinating and Development Corporation, Thomas Bush, a CIC intern, and Dr. Sumeet Dua from La Tech.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about why cyber is important for our region.
