Representative Jack McFarland Receives Prestigious CHRISTUS Health Eagle Award April 23, 2019Member NewsCommunications Department Louisiana Representative Jack McFarland Honored for Outstanding Legislative Leadership and Strong Commitment to Health Care Issues (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) – April 23, 2019 – Jack McFarland, a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives is the recipient of the 2019 CHRISTUS Health Eagle Award for his commendable support and unwavering commitment to the health and welfare of the residents of the district he represents, District 13, as well as for all citizens across the state. District 13 encompasses Bienville, Jackson, Ouachita, and Winn Parishes in north Louisiana, but Representative McFarland’s leadership and tireless efforts during his legislative tenure have singlehandedly preserved and protected vital access to health care for our state’s most vulnerable populations. Members of the CHRISTUS Health Louisiana leadership team will present this award at the CHRISTUS Legislative Reception at 6:30 p.m., or upon adjournment of the House of Representatives, on Tuesday, April 23. CHRISTUS Health presents the annual award, now in its nineteenth year, to one or more lawmakers who share the health system’s mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. When notified of this recognition, Representative McFarland stated, “I am humbled to receive this award and to be recognized in this way. Many of us stand up for equitable health care funding for our hospitals and for the public-private partnerships that are tasked with serving our most vulnerable populations. To be recognized for my contributions throughout my legislative tenure is very much appreciated.” Elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 2016, McFarland serves on numerous committees, including the House Appropriations Committee, the Labor and Industrial Relations Committee, the Natural Resources and Environment Committee, and the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget. Through his service on these committees and his unfailing commitment to doing what is right, Representative McFarland has taken a hands-on-approach to ensuring the health and well-being of the citizens of Louisiana remain a top priority. His reputation as a “straight shooter” has earned him the respect and attention of his fellow legislators, constituents, and leaders across Louisiana. Representative McFarland is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He resides in Winnfield, Louisiana, but has also lived in other Winn Parish communities, Calvin and Dodson and the Jackson Parish community of Chatam. McFarland is a former member of the Winn Parish Policy Jury and worked for the Police Jury Association of Louisiana. He currently owns and operates his own timber company, McFarland Timber, and is a natural advocate of the industry as it is the largest industry in his district and one of the most important agricultural industries in Louisiana.
