April 12, 2024
The Bossier Chamber is proud to celebrate Month of the Military Child, highlighting the bravery and strength of our military children during the month of April.
The Chamber along with Bossier Schools hosted a Purple Up! T-shirt contest where students were asked to design this year’s Month of the Military Child shirt. The winners of the contest were Jaylee DeWolf from Sun City Elementary, Audri Marlow from Benton Intermediate, and Charles West from Bossier High School and are still on sale by clicking here. Lamar Advertising has created billboards for them and they are currently displayed around the city.
In addition to the T-shirt contest, the Chamber along with partners Barksdale Federal Credit Union, Bossier Parish Schools, and the NWLA Military Support Foundation, hosted a video competition. Bossier Parish students were encouraged to create one-minute videos to educate the community about what it’s like being a military child. Ten videos were submitted. Our first winner was “Sacrifices of a Military Child” by Gavin Matt and Ashton Bechtol from Parkway High School.
As part of the Month of the Military Child festivities, Benton Middle School will host a special event on April 12 at 9 a.m. in their gym, celebrating military children and their families in our community. Additionally, throughout the month of April, the Bossier Chamber would like to encourage everyone to show their support by wearing purple every Friday.
The Chamber would like to encourage businesses to join the celebration by showcasing their appreciation for our military members and children. We invite businesses to display messages of support on your business signs or marquees during the Month of the Military Child and share photos with us at info@bossierchamber.com to be featured on our social media channels.
